Nintendo DS Firmware (Japan) (Prototype) (ver. 40820D)
- - togemet2

The following is a prototype of the Nintendo DS firmware. It was recovered from an X4 prototype unit and the menu notes it as being ver. 40820D. The unit itself contains the extremely low serial of NTPAB20003. Just about every aspect of this version is different from the retail release.

Differences

  • Upon boot a sound file of children shouting “Nintendo!” will play.
  • The Nintendo Game Boy Advance logo will appear on the top screen instead of the DS logo.
  • The menu itself is completely different and list-based instead of the spread out options like retail.
  • When a game is inserted, the menu will show up for a very limited amount of time before automatically launching the game.

South Park Rally (Europe) (Prototype) (2)
- - togemet2

The following is a press review prototype of South Park Rally by Acclaim for the Nintendo 64, intended for use in PAL regions. In this release, a patched ROM file is included (as well as the unmodified dump as always). Many emulators and flashcarts look at the GUID in the header to guess the region. Setting 0x3E to 0x50 (“P”) automates that, thus making it run without the original hardware.

Differences

  • The game shares it’s product ID with Turok: Dinosaur Hunter.
  • Header title is listed as “p003.rom”.

Nicola Kanshuu - Model Oshare Audition (Japan) (Distribution Cartridge)
- - togemet2

The following is a data distribution cartridge for the game Model Oshare Audition. It was used across various McDonald’s locations within Japan on April 16th to May the 6th, 2010, and would gift the player a free McDonald’s employee outfit in-game. Something interesting is that the data seems to be self destructing, and after running the game once, it cannot be run again. Due to this, it will not be useable without the included savefile. Even more odd, for the data to actually be distributed, while on the final prompt you must “hotswap” to the retail game cartridge and power back off the system.

Michael Owen's WLS 2000 (Europe) (Prototype)
- - togemet2

The following is a prototype of Michael Owen’s WLS 2000, developed by Silicon Dreams Studio. In this release, a patched ROM file is included (as well as the unmodified dump as always). Many emulators and flashcarts look at the GUID in the header to guess the region. Setting 0x3E to 0x50 (“P”) automates that, thus making it run without the original hardware.

Differences

  • Appears to be quite different from the retail release.
  • The header does not contain the game’s ID.
