Nitro EVA (CTR) Ver11.0
- - togemet2

The purpose of the following cartridge was to test and diagnose various functions on Nintendo 3DS systems during production. Something to note is that this is, unusually, an updated version of the original Nintendo DS aging cartridge (dated October 27th, 2010). Because of this, it is able to be used within an original DS/Lite. In order to get access to the main option menu, hold the start and select buttons upon startup.

Super Spin (Preview Version)
- - togemet2

The following is the cancelled “Super Spin”, developed by Zyrinx Software in 1993 for the Sega Genesis! It was developed about a year or so before their first published game titled Sub-Terrania, and consists of simple top-down racing action featuring two characters by the name of Chief and Sheena. Because this is in such an early state, different terrains such as grass and water do not stop or slow down the player. A small debug display of sorts also appears within the lower left corner of the screen, although its intended purpose is currently unknown.

Down - Change to first gear
Down (while not moving) - Reverse

Wily & Right no RockBoard - That's Paradise (Japan) (Prototype)
- - togemet2

The following is a prototype of Wily & Right no RockBoard: That’s Paradise, developed by Capcom. The artwork used for the label was taken from a promotional flyer for the game, however it includes the added addition of the phrase “Yō henkyaku” (must be returned).

Differences

  • The copyright year on the title screen notes 1992 instead of 1993.
  • The word “SAMPLE” appears directly under the Push Start text.

M8 Game Selectable Working Product Display (USA) (Rev B)
- - togemet2

We’ve preserved the BIOS from the Nintendo Entertainment System “M8” kiosk! Not to be confused with it’s much more well-known counter part the M82, the M8 could only hold a total of fifteen built in games which could not be easily swapped out by the owner.

Screenshot Screenshot Screenshot

These units included the following games: Duck Hunt, Hogan’s Alley, Wild Gunman, Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, Kung Fu, Pinball, Super Mario Bros., Baseball, Golf, Tennis, Excitebike, Mach Rider, Wrecking Crew, and Popeye. Unsurprisingly, they all match the retail releases.

Amusingly, the main PCB holding all of the data is technically the largest cartridge to ever be produced for the system. It’s a 60-pin Famicom cartridge which connects to an NES via a 72-pin converter!

As for the BIOS itself, it’s very close to the M82 but much less polished, with different graphics and text. Interestingly it also uses a music track present within the FamicomBox menu.

Super Mario Swiss Cup - Cup-Diskette (Europe)
- - togemet2

The following is a “Cup-Diskette” which would’ve been used to record player scores during the Super Mario Swiss Cup tournament held by Nintendo in Switzerland, 1993! Participants would try to qualify for the final round by attempting to gather as many points as possible in either Super Mario Bros 3 for the NES, or Looney Tunes Road Runner for the SNES within a seven-minute timeframe. One of these diskettes would’ve been able to be purchased on-site for CHF 5.00, and would’ve given the player a total of five attempts to get a good score.

The disk itself holds two files: GAME_1.DAT and GAME_2.DAT, both with a filedate of the May 28th, 1993. It’s currently unknown how to extract the data from these files, so if you happen to figure it out let us know! We’d be super interested to learn exactly how much information they contain.

The text located on the front of the box is as follows:

Video game talents are now coming to the front: with the sporty and playful
Swiss Championship '93 for the Super Mario Swiss Cup winners in 10 categories.
Everything you need to know about the championship is in the brochure, which
is in this box together with a Cup-Diskette. The diskette is loaded with 5 games
and must be sent to the head office in this box with the sender's name after the
last game so that the results can be recorded.

NARC (USA) (Prototype)
- - togemet2

The following is a prototype of NARC for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Rare Ltd. According to the front label, this build was intended for demo purposes at CES (Consumer Electronics Show). The PCB itself is quite an interesting one, as it features modifications with the purpose of converting the board from AOROM to ANROM.

Differences

  • Various references to smoking and illicit drugs are present which were removed in the retail game.
  • “Kwak Stop” is instead named “Krak Stop”.
  • Dumpster Man is referred to as being a PCP addict.

Kid Klown in Crazy Chase (Europe) (Prototype)
- - togemet2

The following is a prototype of Kid Klown in Crazy Chase by Kemco for the SNES. Despite it being labelled PAL and having a PAL lockout chip, the ROM is seemingly NTSC and it contains a few differences of note when compared to the retail release.

Differences

  • A different font is being used for the in-game text.
  • Debug functions are accessible using a second controller.
  • Bonus stages don’t seem to be present after completing a stage.
